The ornaments

The flourishes and garlands a site can wear are not drawn by us, and not generated. They are cut from engravings and etchings made between the 1650s and the 1820s — pattern sheets, published for exactly this purpose — held by the museums below and released by them into the public domain under CC0. We trace each motif from the museum's scan, lift it off the paper, and let it take the colour of the couple's own palette.

23 motifs from 10 plates. Every plate's public-domain status is re-checked against its museum each week.
